Summary
A lead weight unearthed at Nea Paphos, Cyprus, provides a precise dating point for the agora of this UNESCO World Heritage Site. The weight bears a Greek inscription mentioning an agoranomos named Seleukos and referencing year 251 of a civic era, later identified as that of Seleucia in Pieria (starting 109/108 BC). This allows the artifact to be dated to AD 142/143. The study argues that the structure where the weight was found may have been an agoranomeion, or market official's office, of Nea Paphos. The research relies on epigraphic analysis and comparative chronology, offering a rare material link between North Syrian city-states and Cyprus in the 2nd century AD.
