Summary

A linear relationship between the modulus of stress-resistograph and the modulus of elasticity (MOE) was identified, with correlation coefficients reaching 0.7111. This finding suggests that the modulus of stress-resistograph can be used as a reliable non-destructive method for evaluating MOE in ancient structural timber. The study involved testing four larch wood specimens from the drum-tower of Zhengjue Temple in Beijing using stress wave transmission times, resistograph measurements, and density tests. Traditional bending tests were also conducted to validate the relationship. For more accurate future evaluations, 95% confidence regression lines are recommended for calculations.
