Summary

No significant changes in flood risk are projected for the Old Town of Corfu under future climatic conditions. This finding emerges from a study analyzing precipitation trends and employing a multi-criteria GIS-based approach to identify high flood hazard zones. The research aimed to develop a rapid yet reliable method for assessing future flood risks without relying on hydrodynamic models or extensive local data. By using climate scenarios and simple geostatistical models, the study provided insights into potential changes in flood risk, with uncertainties stemming primarily from climate modeling errors and data resolution limitations. The identified flood-prone areas are expected to remain largely unchanged, offering a foundation for tailored mitigation measures that align with the site's unique characteristics.
