Summary
A comprehensive review of the state of research on Holy Trinity and Marian columns in the Habsburg Monarchy during the 17th–18th centuries reveals a significant gap in understanding their societal context. While existing literature, particularly from Czech scholars, has emphasized artistic value and counter-reformation ideology, this study highlights the need for deeper investigation into the role of early modern epidemics on the foundation of these monuments. It also calls for broader exploration of fundator environments, monument localization, and the social dimensions of their construction across regions including Poland (Silesia and Kłodzko), Austria, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Germany, Slovenia, Croatia, Romania, and the United States.
