Summary

A comprehensive epidemiological survey revealed that all 14 non-municipal drinking water samples from rural communities in the Blue and John Crow Mountains, Jamaica, exceeded safe limits for total coliforms, posing significant public health risks. The study, conducted between December 2021 and June 2022, assessed microbiological and physiochemical parameters of spring and tributary water sources using standardized field sampling and laboratory testing methods. Findings confirmed the initial hypothesis that unsafe drinking water in these communities is a critical public health concern, with implications for disease burden in developing regions.
