Summary

A novel fit-for-purpose urban building energy modeling (UBEM) framework has been developed, which balances the level of detail (LoD) required for different types of buildings to optimize data collection and model reliability. The study found that higher LoD is crucial in occupancy modeling for residential and educational buildings, while commercial buildings require more detailed envelope characteristics. This approach enables targeted data collection efforts, improving the accuracy and efficiency of UBEMs at large geographical scales. The framework was demonstrated using a case study in Ahmedabad, India, highlighting its potential to enhance sustainable urban design and operations.
