Summary

A study of the Putorana Plateau's alpine belt revealed a unique avifauna with 33 breeding bird species, including two first-time recordings: the red-necked stint and long-tailed skua, extending their known distribution ranges by 600 and 200 km. The research used route counts along transects to assess spatial differentiation, applying Sørensen's faunal coefficient for similarity analysis and population similarity coefficients. Passeriformes and Charadriiformes dominated (80–88%), with Arctic faunal complex species comprising 52–62% of diversity. Notably, bird abundance and density were higher than in other alpine regions, decreasing with altitude. The study highlights the plateau's ecological significance, showing how its avifauna is shaped by zonal-landscape and altitudinal patterns.
