The Palaces of the M'Zab Valley Between the Past and the Present. A Case Study of the Palace of Elattef - Ghardaia Province, Algeria

Recent research on the UNESCO-listed M'Zab Valley palaces, including the historic Palace of El Atteuf, reveals significant transformations in their architectural integrity due to environmental, demographic, and socio-economic pressures. Despite maintaining their distinctive style over centuries, these structures face increasing distortions, threatening their preservation. The study employed a dual methodology: historical analysis to trace the palace's past and descriptive-analytical fieldwork, including surveys of 100 residents, to assess current conditions. Findings underscore the urgent need for conservation efforts to protect this World Urban Heritage site from further degradation.
