Ancient Settlements With Traditional Ways of Living – Revitalization and Popularization Experience: Cases of M'zab Valley in Algeria and Kryvorivnia Village in Ukraine

Revitalization of ancient settlements preserving traditional ways of living can be successfully achieved through community-driven initiatives, as demonstrated by the cases of M'Zab Valley in Algeria and Kryvorivnia Village in Ukraine. Both settlements, geographically isolated and deeply rooted in historical traditions, have adopted distinct yet effective strategies for sustainability. M'Zab Valley maintains a controlled tourism model, managed by local volunteer guides, while Kryvorivnia invites tourists to immerse themselves in local rituals and festivals. The preservation of ancient culture and architecture in these settlements is underpinned by their harmonious integration with the natural environment, ensuring both the necessity and feasibility of sustaining local traditions. This comparative study highlights the potential for traditional settlements to thrive through balanced tourism development and community engagement.
