Summary
The Festival Aves de Paraty (2012–2016) successfully integrated tourism with environmental conservation, demonstrating that such initiatives can strengthen ecoturism and nature tourism while reducing their negative impacts. By leveraging birdwatching as a tool for environmental education, the festival fostered community engagement and raised awareness about local biodiversity preservation in Paraty, Brazil—a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The study employed qualitative research methods, including bibliographic analysis, documentary surveys, and questionnaires, to assess the project's effectiveness. Findings highlighted its role in promoting sustainable tourism practices through education, reflection, and active participation, offering a replicable model for balancing conservation with local economic benefits.
