Summary
A comprehensive historical analysis of the Aeolian Islands, particularly focusing on Vulcano and its eruptions alongside seismic activity in the region from the 15th to 19th centuries, has uncovered significant gaps and new data. The study identified nearly 100 earthquakes—including previously unknown events—and confirmed or debunked 20 eruptions of Vulcano, revealing that some historical records were doubtful or fictitious. This research, part of a broader project analyzing tectonic-volcanic relationships, utilized over 200 historical descriptions to compile the first integrated catalogue of these events, providing critical insights into the region's geological history and improving seismic hazard assessment.
