Summary
Ilha Grande, Brazil, hosts 49 threatened plant species, with 12 listed internationally and 30 on Brazil's national list. The study, using herbaria data, living collections, and field sampling, found that deforestation and logging are the primary historical threats, affecting predominantly arboreal species. Families like Melastomataceae, Myrtaceae, Meliaceae, Bromeliaceae, and Orchidaceae, which are rich in Dense Ombrophilous Forest, also have the highest number of threatened species. Four species on the island are endemic to Rio de Janeiro State.
