Sustainable fishing
Fisheries worldwide face existential threats from overexploitation, habitat degradation, marine pollution, and climate change, as underscored during the 2025 UN Ocean Conference in Nice. This study highlights that achieving sustainability requires more than ecological solutions alone—it demands interdisciplinary collaboration and context-specific strategies. By synthesizing contemporary fisheries research, it identifies critical gaps and emphasizes the need for inclusive approaches to address the complex challenges threatening aquatic ecosystems globally.
Territorial inertia versus adaptation to climate change. When local authorities discuss coastal management in a French Mediterranean region
Local authorities in Nice, a leading French Mediterranean tourism region, exhibit strong territorial inertia when discussing coastal management amid climate change, prioritizing beach- and residential-oriented economies while underestimating risks like sea-level rise and flooding. Beach erosion is the only widely recognized threat, with younger officials showing greater awareness of environmental challenges. The study combines geographical sampling, text statistics, and qualitative interview analysis to reveal social representations of coastal risks, offering a transferable methodology for assessing climate action at local scales.
The restoration of color in the French historic cities: approaches, methods and experiences
Post-World War II French historical cities often lacked vibrancy, but modern heritage preservation policies have prioritized color restoration to enhance urban identity and quality of life. While regulated 'color plans' sometimes lead to uniform, historically inaccurate palettes, well-designed interventions—such as those in the Ain Department villages or Nice's facades—demonstrate successful preservation of traditional hues. The study analyzes these approaches, revealing that effectiveness depends on the expertise of architects, urban planners, and heritage advocates. It highlights both the strengths and limitations of color regulation in safeguarding France's architectural legacy.
