Summary
A robust, replicable methodology for high-resolution documentation of Byzantine mosaics using photogrammetry has been established. By systematically testing and comparing survey instruments and acquisition techniques, researchers achieved unprecedented detail in ortho images of the Nativity Church's mosaics—enabling precise digitization of individual tiles. This approach not only advances mosaic preservation but also introduces an automated vectorization system for large-scale data management. The study demonstrates that structured photogrammetric processes can be adapted to other heritage contexts, bridging traditional documentation with modern digital techniques.
