Summary

Despite extensive research on Great Zimbabwe, new perspectives continue to emerge. This study challenges conventional narratives by critically examining the concept of 'decoloniality' within the context of the site's interpretation and management. It argues that while efforts to reclaim Great Zimbabwe from colonial interpretations may appear progressive, they can also perpetuate regressive practices, such as romanticizing the past or ignoring contemporary socio-political dynamics. The research employs a decolonial lens to analyze historical narratives, archaeological interpretations, and heritage management strategies, revealing complexities in the site's representation that complicate straightforward decolonization efforts.
