Summary
This study identifies and classifies the architectural typology of Segovia's medieval tower houses, revealing their dual defensive and residential functions. It traces their evolution from fortified structures in the Middle Ages to noble urban residences by the 16th century, ultimately recognizing their intrinsic patrimonial value as part of Segovia's historical landscape. The research analyzes eight tower houses with 14 medieval towers, examining their urban, architectural, and constructive features through historical, documentary, photographic, and personal sources. A key finding is the inherent unity between the tower and its house, forming a distinct architectural ensemble that has adapted to the city's transformations while retaining symbolic significance.
