Summary

A combined approach effectively assesses groundwater depletion in data-scarce regions, offering a sustainable solution for Wadi Zabid, Yemen. This study demonstrates that integrating participatory rural appraisal, integrated data analysis, crop budget modeling, and water balance modeling can address the socio-economic impacts of groundwater depletion at a regional level. While this method proves useful for developing scenarios for groundwater storage recovery, it is less effective at sub-regional levels due to data limitations. The research highlights the potential of this approach in arid and semi-arid regions where complex hydro-economic models are impractical.
