Summary

A key insight from this study is that the prolonged failure of Polotsk's requests to transfer St. Euphrosyne of Polotsk's relics until 1909 was primarily due to opposition from Kyiv's highest clergy, namely the Kyiv metropolitans and the Spiritual Council of the Kiev-Pechersk Lavra. The research analyzes historical petitions and disputes between 1832 and 1909, using historiographical analysis to substantiate this hypothesis. It also identifies the critical factor that led to success in 1910: the post-1905 political climate, which prompted state intervention to resolve the dispute in favor of Polotsk. This study highlights the interplay between religious authority and political shifts in shaping historical outcomes.
