Summary
Cultural heritage tourism holds significant potential for reviving Old Muharraq, Bahrain, a historic city that has faced decline since the oil discovery in 1932. A case study and onsite analysis revealed that targeted rehabilitation projects, such as the pearling path, could effectively counteract urban decay while preserving cultural identity. Informal interviews with Bahrain Authority for Culture and Antiquities provided critical insights into challenges and opportunities. The research suggests a sustainable tourism strategy could serve as a catalyst for regeneration, balancing heritage conservation with economic revitalization.
