Summary
Tourism development in Salento, Colombia, has significantly transformed the town's economic and social structure since the early 21st century. This transformation, while boosting tourism, has also introduced challenges such as gentrification and inequality, which can negatively impact quality of life. The study employs a case study approach to analyze these changes, focusing on the interplay between urban-rural cultural landscapes and tourism dynamics. By examining Salento's experience, the research highlights the complexities of balancing tourism growth with sustainable development and social equity in UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
