Summary
A comprehensive survey of moss species within the Vale da Lua, located in Chapada dos Veadeiros National Parkrevealed 33 distinct species, including 20 acrocarpous, 11 pleurocarpous, and two cladocarpous types. This study significantly expands the known diversity of mosses in the Cerrado biome's gallery forests, contributing to global and regional biodiversity records. Researchers employed field sampling and taxonomic analysis to document these species, which span 16 families and 23 genera, while also providing insights into their substrate preferences and geographic distribution. The findings underscore the ecological richness of this protected area, particularly in a sedimentary and geomorphologically significant valley, and offer a foundational resource for future conservation efforts.
