Summary
Priest Pavel Florensky, renowned for his religious philosophy and works such as 'The Pillar and Ground of the Truth,' is revealed as a conservative thinker who prioritized the preservation of Orthodox Church dogmata, canons, and sacraments. This study challenges existing perceptions that equate his ideas with modernizing trends like Sergei Bulgakov’s sophiology. Through analysis of Florensky's actions during the 1905–1907 upheavals and post-1917 Soviet era, it demonstrates his consistent opposition to religious progress theories and his efforts to safeguard liturgical and monastic life at the Trinity Sergius Lavra. Despite ambiguities in his theological concepts, Florensky is shown to have remained steadfastly committed to the Orthodox Church's core mission.
