Summary
A lost tomb monument to Prince Kostiantyn Ivanovych Ostrozkyi, installed in the Dormition Cathedral of Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra in 1579, can be reconstructed based on historical testimonies and stylistic analogies. The study identifies its typological features as a Renaissance-era memorial, depicting a knight in full armor within an architectural niche, drawing parallels with Western European and Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth funerary sculptures. By analyzing sixteenth- and seventeenth-century sources—including eyewitness accounts by Paul of Aleppo—and comparing it to other Ostrozkyi family monuments, researchers outline potential approaches for scholarly reconstruction. This work contributes to understanding the role of memorial sculpture in Eastern Europe's artistic culture during this period.
