A Revised Herpetofauna of Ujung Kulon National Park, West Java, Indonesia

A revised herpetofauna inventory of Ujung Kulon National Park, Indonesia, identifies 21 amphibian and 65 reptile species, including 15 (17%) documented for the first time in this UNESCO-listed site. The park harbors critical populations of rare and endemic species, such as Kalophrynus minusculus, Limnonectes malesianus, Sphenomorphus striolatus, and Tomistoma schlegelii, with three tree-dwelling Javan endemics (Microhyla achatina, Limnonectes microdiscus, Elapoidis fusca) also recorded. Endemism rates for amphibians range from 41–54%, while reptiles exhibit 10–13% endemism, underscoring the park's ecological significance as a stronghold for Java's biodiversity. The study updates previous records and highlights Ujung Kulon’s role in conserving globally threatened species.
