Summary
A novel, low-cost pipeline for 3D digitization of archaeological artifacts has been developed, addressing key challenges in fieldwork such as cost, portability, and automation. The system integrates a transportable photobooth with automated image processing, enabling efficient acquisition and analysis of large collections under real-world conditions—including variable lighting and time constraints. Using high-end photogrammetry techniques (Apero/MicMac), the pipeline generates accurate 3D reconstructions suitable for detailed shape analysis and classification. Field-tested at Delphi’s Tholos site, this approach demonstrates how open-source tools can meet archaeological documentation needs while overcoming logistical hurdles in UNESCO World Heritage contexts.
