Summary

Lebanese forests, including the UNESCO-listed Ouadi Qadisha and the Forest of the Cedars of God, have faced severe regression due to intersecting challenges such as climate change, soil degradation, economic pressures, and population dynamics. Despite significant reforestation efforts—both historical and contemporary—success remains constrained by complex environmental and socio-economic factors. The study highlights key obstacles, including low survival rates of replanted saplings and the inefficiency of traditional methods. International collaboration under Lebanese government oversight has improved outcomes but is not yet sufficient to reverse deforestation trends. The research underscores the urgent need for adaptive strategies that integrate ecological resilience with sustainable land-use practices.
