Summary
Newly uncovered records from Kraków’s medieval and early modern municipal accounts reveal previously unknown details about Celestat, the historic shooting range, and its associated competitions. The study documents construction works on Celestat, including renovations in 1398 and the erection of a new shooting range at Mikołajska Gate in 1564–1565, supervised by city architect Gabriel Słoninka. Additionally, it provides insights into the annual costs for purchasing prizes for shooting contests and the expenses related to organizing festivities at Celestat to honor the best marksmen. These findings not only confirm the authenticity of earlier published statutes but also significantly expand knowledge about the Fowler Brotherhood’s artifacts, contributing to a deeper understanding of Kraków’s historical heritage.
