Summary
Traditional norms and customs within the Osun-Osogbo Sacred Grove (OOSG) in South-West Nigeria are more effective in biodiversity conservation than conventional legal measures. The study identified key taboos, such as farming, killing animals, felling trees, and environmental pollution, which significantly contribute to the grove's preservation. These findings highlight the potency of cultural practices in sustaining biodiversity compared to modern conservation strategies. The research employed purposive sampling techniques, gathering data from local residents, staff, custodians, and management through questionnaires, GPS coordinates, and photography. Tourist visitation patterns were also analyzed based on age, gender, religion, and education level.
