Summary

A significant gender disparity exists in how tourist engagement influences loyalty at UNESCO World Heritage Site Kinabalu Park. Male tourists exhibit stronger loyalty when engaged through attention, while female tourists display greater heterogeneity and complex sufficient configurations for achieving high loyalty levels. The study analyzed 210 questionnaires using partial least squares–structural equation modeling and fuzzy-set qualitative comparative analysis, revealing nuanced differences in engagement behaviors between genders that could inform targeted strategies to enhance tourist loyalty.
