An Assessment of Geosites and Geomorphosites in the Lut Desert of Shahdad Region for Potential Geotourism Development

A study identifies the Lut Desert's kaluts, nebkhas, and Gandom Beryan geomorphosites as having significant potential for sustainable geotourism development. These landforms, known for their unique desert patterns and extreme temperatures, were assessed using three evaluation methods to determine their suitability for tourism. The research highlights the region's night sky as another high-potential attraction. Economic criteria revealed similar scores across all geomorphosites, emphasizing the need for officials and planners to leverage these assets for economic and cultural capacity building among Indigenous communities and the tourism industry.
