Summary
Despite efforts to promote contemporary architecture, the Dolomites region, particularly Belluno Province, grapples with widespread 'false alpine models'—repetitive, historically disconnected designs that dominate its architectural landscape. These structures, often favored by institutions due to regulatory constraints and limited innovation, overshadow genuine contemporary achievements. However, scattered examples of high-quality architecture demonstrate that when research, enlightened patronage, and modern design converge, they can elevate Belluno's standing in national and international architectural discourse. This study highlights the tension between traditional resistance and regulatory hurdles, contrasting them with pockets of successful innovation.
