Summary
Hongcun, a UNESCO World Heritage Site in China, experiences significant tourism pressure with over 500,000 annual visitors. A mixed-methods study involving 418 quantitative respondents and 40 qualitative interviewees revealed that while the village generally embraces tourism, residents express concerns about past contractual arrangements. The research highlighted the importance of integrating both quantitative and qualitative approaches to fully capture contextual nuances, particularly when replicating studies in new cultural settings like China. This approach avoids overlooking critical insights that quantitative methods alone may miss.
