Summary
A religious confraternity linked to the Monastery of Hosios Loukas, founded in 1048, is identified through an inscription preserved in its lapidarium. The study reveals that this confraternity and the nunnery of the Virgin Naupaktitissa were dependencies of Hosios Loukas, clarifying their hierarchical relationship. Additionally, it explores the depiction of Philotheos holding a church in frescoes, addressing divergent theories about which church is represented. The research also sheds light on the early 10th-century geopolitical threats to Boeotia and Phokis from the north. This analysis draws from an inscription with distinctive paleographic features, including elongated capital letters, abbreviations, and ligatures, examined during a seminar at the University of Athens in 1989–90.
