Summary

Large-scale rocky desertification reversal has been achieved in the South China Karst region, primarily driven by extensive ecological protection efforts. Between 2005 and 2016, restoration projects led to a net decrease of 26.14% in areas affected by rocky desertification, with the extent of mitigation directly proportional to the intensity of restoration efforts. The study, combining field campaigns, satellite imagery analysis, and project statistics, demonstrated that human intervention significantly enhanced vegetation resilience and resistance against climate variations. This reversal underscores the critical role of targeted ecological initiatives in promoting sustainable development in one of the world's most rapidly changing karst landscapes.
