Summary
The cult of the Chernihiv miraculous icon of the Virgin Mary, painted in 1658 by Hryhoriy Dubensky, was widespread and revered across the Russian Empire during the 19th and early 20th centuries. This study reveals how copies of the icon became significant socio-cultural phenomena, particularly through their glorification in the 'Chernihiv Diocesan News.' Notably, a copy housed in the Gethsemane Hermitage of the Trinity-Sergius Lavra was associated with miraculous aid to the Filippov family, leading to its donation by Aleksandra Filippova. Another revered copy was discovered in St. Petersburg's Smolny Resurrection Cathedral following a soldier's vision. The research employs logical, retrospective, and generalization methods, rooted in historicism, to analyze these cultural narratives, highlighting the enduring spiritual significance of the icon across different regions.
