Summary

Affective spaces in architecture, particularly those representing time through formal metaphors, can evoke lived experiences of memory and emotion. This study explores how chronographic buildings like the Jantar Mantar solar observatories in Jaipur influence subjective time perception, linking it to corporeal experience rather than mere archival memory. By integrating historical traditions of the 'art of memory' with phenomenological theories from Bergson, Minkowski, Binswanger, and Schmitz, the research demonstrates that spatial qualities can re-emerge affective states, challenging conventional notions of memory as purely cognitive or archival.
