Summary

A comprehensive assessment of groundwater quality in the Daia region of M'Zab Valley reveals that 94% and 88% of water samples collected in 2016 and 2017, respectively, meet excellent standards for drinking purposes according to Algerian regulations. The study employed the Water Quality Index (WQI), a single-number metric that consolidates multiple physico-chemical parameters to evaluate overall water quality. Analysis of 18 groundwater points over two years demonstrated significant variations in parameters such as pH, electrical conductivity, and ion concentrations, underscoring the region's hydrochemical diversity. This research highlights the Daia region's groundwater as a reliable source for drinking water, providing critical insights for sustainable water resource management in UNESCO-listed M'Zab Valley.
