Summary
A two-storeyed peristyle portico, encircling the inner courtyard of House H1 in Marina el-Alamein, Egypt, has been reconstructed through detailed architectural analysis. The upper storey featured galleries leading to first-floor rooms, contributing to the house's stateliness. This design, while not unique in the Hellenistic and Roman world, stands out for its grandeur. The study compares this structure with parallels from Ptolemais and Gebel Barkal, Sudan, highlighting its significance within North African architecture.
