Summary
Rural areas, particularly those with historical and cultural significance, face critical preservation challenges that threaten their authenticity. A study on Bursa's Cumalıkızık Village identifies the root causes of these issues—primarily neglect, economic hardships, and architectural decay—which collectively accelerate physical deterioration. The research employs a problem-based approach, combining field observations and literature reviews to categorize preservation challenges into social, economic, architectural, and legal dimensions. Key findings highlight that while Cumalıkızık's traditional architecture is at risk due to abandonment and financial constraints, targeted rehabilitation strategies could safeguard its unique character while ensuring community engagement. The study proposes actionable recommendations aimed at mitigating these threats, offering a model for similar rural settlements worldwide.
