Summary

Researchers have documented the Long-tailed Singing Mouse (Scotinomys xerampelinus) at an unprecedented elevation of 3820 meters on Cerro Chirripó, Costa Rica, extending its known altitudinal range by 420 meters. This discovery suggests either historical gaps in survey data or a potential upslope shift driven by climate change, as rising temperatures may be pushing species to higher elevations—a trend observed in other Costa Rican vertebrates. The study relied on field observations within Chirripó National Park, part of the Talamanca Range-La Amistad Reserves.
