Summary

A novel approach to climate change adaptation was developed through participatory scenario planning, which synthesized future climate projections into three distinct yet plausible climate summaries for Wrangell-St. Elias National Park and Preserve. This method identified priority resource management topics and their corresponding climate uncertainties, then used local climate data to create divergent climate futures that captured relevant uncertainty. The scenarios, informed by virtual workshops in 2021, provided actionable insights for the park's Resource Stewardship Strategy, demonstrating a scalable model for other large protected areas in Alaska and Northwest Canada.
