Summary

Delphi's decline as a major oracular site was not due to the oracle itself, but rather its inability to engage with evolving theological and religious practices. While Delphi's oracle faded, other sites like Claros and Didyma in Asia Minor gained prestige by addressing new spiritual questions. The rise of astrology and Neoplatonic theurgy, which offered personal and soteriological pathways to divine wisdom, further marginalized traditional oracular consultation. Archaeological evidence shows a shift at Delphi from its Panhellenic pagan roots toward Christian acceptance, marking a significant transformation in its sacred space's use and status.
