Summary

The Fonséranes Lock on the Canal du Midi, once a vital commercial tool, transitioned into a celebrated tourist attraction by the 20th century. Despite its recognition as a heritage site, its potential was underutilized due to accessibility issues, safety concerns, and inadequate infrastructure until 2015. A renovation project initiated in 2016 aimed to enhance the tourist experience through sustainable valorization, though some challenges remain unresolved. This study highlights the disconnect between promotional strategies and on-the-ground management, emphasizing the need for a more cohesive approach to heritage site preservation and tourism development.
