On the Philatelic Circuit of the UNESCO Churches from Maramureș

A philatelic-tourist itinerary for the UNESCO-listed wooden churches of Maramureș, Romania, has been proposed to aid visitors seeking specialized cultural information. The study identifies over 50 philatelic mentions—including postage stamps, first-day covers, and commemorative envelopes—across multiple platforms and collector networks, enabling a thematic route through eight villages: Bârsana, Budeşti, Deseşti, Ieud, Plopiş, Poienile Izei, Rogoz, and Şurdeşti. This approach highlights philately's role in promoting ecumenical heritage and enhancing the visibility of UNESCO sites both nationally and internationally. The research draws on a comprehensive analysis of philatelic materials to construct a cohesive narrative for cultural tourism.
