The Novodevichy Convent in the Mirror of Urban Legends

Urban legends and myths surrounding the Novodevichy Convent in Moscow are deeply intertwined with its historical narrative, shaping perceptions of this significant religious and cultural site. The study reveals that these legends, collected from diverse sources including local history literature, media, and personal accounts between 2008 and 2018, often reflect broader themes tied to the convent's name, construction, and purported miraculous events. By analyzing these narratives, researchers demonstrate how folklore enriches the understanding of the convent's role in Russia's political and cultural heritage.
