Summary

Verona's origins trace back to the 5th century BCE on Castel San Pietro Hill, where an indigenous settlement thrived near the Adige River. A pivotal moment in its development occurred with the construction of the Via Postumia in 148 BCE, a Roman road linking Aquileia to Genoa, which significantly boosted the city's strategic and economic importance. This study reconstructs Verona's early urban evolution, emphasizing its transformation from a modest indigenous settlement into a key node along one of Rome's most vital trade routes.
