Summary

A significant disparity exists between the historic urban fabric of Jeddah and its surrounding, often demolished, areas. This study identified distinct physical characteristics that differentiate these urban fabrics, particularly highlighting the deterioration of adjacent zones. By analyzing six growth phases of Jeddah, researchers developed a classification framework to guide sustainable development at the urban interface. The findings underscore the need for design guidelines that ensure homogeneity, integration, and sustainability in historic centers, aiming to create livable and cohesive urban environments without compromising historical integrity.
