Cultural Landscape Compatibility Study Upper Middle Rhine Valley – A Proactive Tool for Preventive Monitoring of Complex World Heritage Landscapes

A systematic approach combining technical solutions with the assessment of attributes and values can effectively monitor transformations in complex World Heritage landscapes, supporting integrated management strategies that balance preservation and sustainable development. This study presents a proactive tool for preventive monitoring using the Upper Middle Rhine Valley as a case study, demonstrating its potential to assess impacts on Outstanding Universal Value (OUV) and integrity. The approach requires in-depth theoretical knowledge of OUVs, sound integration into legislative frameworks, and stakeholder participation at various levels to ensure full effectiveness.
