Personal Names in the Aramaic Inscriptions of Hatra

A comprehensive linguistic analysis of 376 personal names from the Aramaic inscriptions of Hatra, a Northern Mesopotamian city that thrived during the Parthian era (1st–3rd century AD), reveals intricate onomastic patterns and religious significance. This study leverages newly published Hatran inscriptions to provide fresh readings and etymological insights, organized into an Onomastic Catalogue, Linguistic Analysis, and Concordances Section. The research uncovers orthographic, phonological, morphological, and syntactical features of Hatran names while classifying their semantic and theophoric elements. This work advances our understanding of linguistic evolution and religious practices in ancient Mesopotamia.
