Summary
The nomination of Wat Phra Mahathat Woramahawihan Temple for UNESCO World Heritage List inscription was driven by a dynamic interplay between the government sector and civil society, marked by internal conflicts within both groups. The study revealed that while the government sector played a dominant role due to its power and resources, its strategies lacked significant community engagement. Consequently, communities developed negotiation tactics with the nomination committee, though ultimate control remained with the government. This research employed qualitative methods, including document analysis, observations, and interviews with 43 participants from both formal and informal sectors, shedding light on the complexities of heritage nomination processes.
